Gallery Four:
Royal Parades and Ceremonial Arms
Your next stop is a horse bedecked with royal finery. Horses on parade were
linked with clanking chains of enormous loops of silver. Whenever a czar left the
Kremlin for a military campaign, pilgrimage or hunting expedition, he traveled in
a ceremonial procession that numbered in the thousands. Now take a look at the
ceremonial weapons. You see the saadak, which was carried by the czar and his
nobles, not for defending themselves, but to embody royal power and tradition.
