As you enter this gallery, notice the lavishly decorated chest with five spires,
topped with a huge pink gemstone, called a tourmaline. This container was used as
a tabernacle in the 17th century Russian Orthodox Church. At the far end of the
gallery, you see a rectangular, gold and silver picture of the Madonna and child.
This oklad, or cover, was made for the icon of the Tikhvin Mother of God, an icon
believed to work miracles.
