Gallery Ten:
The Russian Orthodox Church
As you enter this gallery, pause and look around you. This gallery has been
designed to resemble an Orthodox church as it might have appeared in the 19th
century. Now, step over to the free-standing case containing a golden dome-shaped
mitre. This hat was worn by an archbishop. The two-headed eagle, set in pearls,
gives a clue that the mitre was a gift from the royal family.
Featured item: Mitre of the
Archbishop of Arsenii
While browsing the actual gallery you also would find:
- An altar cross in the rococo style
- A gold chalice
